Fitz has said I’m like a hermit most of the time. How Fitz would laugh if he knew where I went on Sundays. He thinks I’m off down the pub, or off on some dubious assignation.

There’s a little fellow who gets up first to announce that they’re still looking for performers for their Christmas show. ‘Anyone with a talent, any talent at all, should see me afterwards.’

He grins shyly from the front, running a distracted hand through his mop-like hair, which is obviously dyed black.

His wife runs this whole place, and she sits behind him in dark glasses and a voluminous blue frock. Her hair is teased up into the tallest beehive I’ve ever seen, though it’s rather thin.
